Terms and Conditions

The rules for using SupportPet.org. In plain English, so you can actually read them.

1. Who we are

SupportPet.org ("we," "us," "our," or the "Site") is an independent educational resource that explains support pets, emotional support animals, ESA letters, and the housing and travel rules that apply to them. The Site is informational. We do not sell ESA letters, registrations, certifications, ID cards, vests, or memberships, and we do not provide legal, medical, or veterinary services.

By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

2. Not legal or medical advice

Everything on SupportPet.org is provided for general information only. It is not legal advice, medical advice, mental-health advice, or veterinary advice, and reading it does not create any professional relationship between you and us.

Laws about housing, travel, assistance animals, and emotional support animals vary by state and change over time. Federal guidance from agencies such as HUD and the U.S. Department of Transportation is updated periodically and may have changed since we wrote a given page. Before you act on anything you read here, talk to a licensed mental-health professional about your situation and, where rights are involved, check the current rules in your jurisdiction or speak with a qualified attorney.

3. Eligibility

The Site is intended for a general adult audience in the United States. By using the Site, you confirm that you are at least 16 years old, or that a parent or legal guardian is supervising your use. The Site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

4. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Site for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes only. You agree not to:

  • Misrepresent the content of the Site or strip it from its context to mislead others;
  • Use the Site to claim that any animal of yours has been "registered" or "certified" by us, because we do not register or certify animals;
  • Scrape, copy, or republish substantial portions of the Site without our written permission;
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site, its hosting infrastructure, or any related systems;
  • Introduce viruses, malware, or any other harmful code, or interfere with the normal operation of the Site;
  • Use automated means to overload, probe, or disrupt the Site.

5. Intellectual property

The text, layout, graphics, diagrams, logos, and overall design of SupportPet.org are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual-property laws. You may read, print, and share links to individual pages for personal, non-commercial reference. Any other use, including reproduction, modification, distribution, or use to train machine-learning models, requires our prior written consent.

References to third-party laws, agencies, court decisions, and publications are made for educational purposes and remain the property of their respective owners.

6. Third-party links and references

The Site links to outside resources such as government agencies, court rulings, and reference articles. We provide those links for convenience. We do not control those sites, we are not responsible for their content or policies, and a link is not an endorsement.

7. No warranty

The Site is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or current, or that any information on it is complete or up to date.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SupportPet.org and its operators, contributors, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to your use of the Site, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. In any case, our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Site is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. In those jurisdictions, the limitations above apply only to the extent permitted by local law.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SupportPet.org and its operators from any claim, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your misuse of the Site, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

10. Changes to the Site and to these Terms

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site at any time without notice. We may also update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there. Nothing in this section limits your right to bring a claim in small-claims court where local law allows it.

12. Severability

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of that provision.

13. Contact

Questions about these Terms can be sent to admin@supportpet.org.

Reminder. SupportPet.org is educational. We do not issue ESA letters, registrations, IDs, or certifications, and no information on this Site replaces advice from a licensed mental-health professional or an attorney.
